Origami: How to fold a “Goshuugi-bukuro” (an envelope for presenting a gift of money [a tip])

I’ll show you how to fold a “Goshuugi-bukuro”

(an envelope for presenting a gift of money [a tip]).

Since you can use this envelope to put a tip or money in,

for a special occasion like celebrating someone you know,

let’s master how to fold it!

Generally, the money you give to people as a gift when you celebrate,

can’t be an even number which can be divided equally,

because it’s said to be a bad fortune.

Especially, 40,000yen should be avoided, since 4 in Japanese is implied “death”.

20,000yen is the even number and can be divided so you should not give it to people.

But that’s the amount of money that many people give.

So it would be a good idea to put three bills separately,

like one 10,000yen bill and two 5,000yen bills,

instead of giving two 10,000 bills.

Which “Goshuugi-bukuro” did you like most?

The one with the crane’s decoration is good with something special

but the simple one is also good, being easy to use.

Also, they will look different if you start folding, facing the other side up too.

You can change the color of the crane,

by putting your favorite color’s origami paper on the triangle part that you cut,

when you make a crane’s “Goshuugi-bukuro”.

They will be even more gorgeous if you put gold or silver colored paper on them too!
