Origami: How to fold a Cherry

Cherries are small berries that are cute and also delicious

with sweet and sour taste, aren’t they?

 

There are some orchards in Japan, where we can pick cherries too!

Don’t you think you want to eat as many cherries as we want,

since they’re expensive?

 

Today, I’ll show you two patterns of how to fold a cherry.

How to fold a cherry Ver.1

 

This is the origami cherries with plane surface.

We are going to use two sheets of origami paper:

cherries (red) and twigs (green or brown).

 

1. We will make twigs first.

Fold it in half twice to make creases like the picture below.

2. Cut it along the 1/4 line from the edge.  We will use this thin part.

3. First, fold it in half and make a crease.

4. Fold both sides to the middle crease.

5. Fold it in half again.

6. After you make it thin, fold it in half width wise.

7. Make it the letter, “V”, and the twigs are done!

8. Now, we are going to make the berries part.

Get a origami paper with 7.5cm × 7.5cm (1/4-sized) ready.

First, fold it in half.

9. Fold it in half again.

10. Fold the corner along the dotted line and

11. turn it over.

12. Turn only one sheet over.

13. While you are folding it, make a slit in the middle.

And turn it over.

14. Fold all corners behind.

15. Change the direction and

16. the berries are done!

17. Put the twigs and the berries together, and the cherries are done!

It looks exactly like real cherries with these small berries like this,

doesn’t it?

 

Make a tree with a plain surface and put them together!

It will be a cherry tree!

How to fold cherry Ver.2

 

Next, we are going to fold a three-dimensional cherry.

Actually, the way of folding this is the same as the origami balloon.

Isn’t it amazing it becomes cherries, only by adding the twig to it?

 

1. We will make the twig.

Get the origami paper whose size is the same as the twigs of Ver.1 ready.

Fold both sides to the middle.

2. Fold it in half again.

3. Fold it in half again.

4. After you make it thin, make a knot near the end.

5. And the twig is done!

6. Now, let’s make a berry!  Get a origami paper with 15cm × 15cm ready.

Fold it in half twice to make two creases.

7.Fold it in half again to make creases, along the dotted lines.

8. Fold it in half along the crease.

9. Fold it in half again.  Open the bag part and fold it to make a triangle.

10. Do the same thing for the other side too.

11. Fold both sides to the middle.

15. Fold the top corner down along the dotted line.

16. Fold both sides again and insert each corner into the slits.

17. Blow the air through the hole and make it swell.

18. Insert the twig into the hole.

It’s such a big piece that we might be full only with this piece, right?

 

If you use the origami paper with some patterns,

you will be able to make the cute cherry too.
