How to fold a pair of geta

One of the old footwear in Japan is ‘geta’.

We still wear those when we wear kimono or yukaga (Japanese traditional costume).♥

Even though it has so many procedures,

it won’t be so hard if you fold it nice and slow.

1. Fold it in half to make a triangle.

2. Fold it in half again to make another triangle.

3. Open the bag part and fold it to make a square, as picture No.4 shows.

4. Do the same thing for the other side too.

image007

5. Fold both sides to the middle along the dotted lines and make creases.

6. Open it along the creases that you made.

7. Do the same thing for the other side too.

8. Fold it in half along the dotted line.

image015

9. Fold the bottom corner up along the dotted line.

image017

10. After you made strong creases, open it up all the way.

image019

11. Fold it along the creases of the square in the middle. (a mountain fold)

image021

12. Fold both sides, leaving the square as it is.

They are just like the real geta with thongs.

They will be even more realistic

if you use origami paper with Japanese patterns such as ‘Chiyogami’.

10. Fold both bottom corners up along the dotted lines.

image097

11. Fold the top corner down along the dotted line.

It will be prettier if you use the origami paper with some patterns too.

If you use bigger-sized paper such as newspaper,

you can actually put it on too!

If you urgently need slippers, they will be so useful, right?
