Origami: How to fold a Horse (A Horse, A Carrot)

There are various horses,

such as a dashing thoroughbred in the race track

or a pony in the public square.

I was just fascinated by its beautiful coat of fur

when I first saw a thoroughbred in the race track.

Well then, let’s make it with origami paper!

I’ll also show you horse’s favorite food.

How to fold a Horse

１．Fold it in half.

２．Fold it in half again.

３．Open the bag part and fold it to make a square.

Do the same thing for the other side too.

４．Fold three parts and make creases along the gray lines.

Cut the red line (middle crease) with scissors.

Do the same thing for the other side too.

５．Fold four triangles (both front and back) up along the dotted lines,

like picture No.6.

６．Fold each diamond shaped part in half.

Fold them the same way in the back too.

７．Change the direction (up and down).

Fold the top right part down along the dotted line,

make a crease and fold it inside.

Do the same thing for the top left part too.

Refer to the picture No.8.

８．And it’s done!

How to fold a Horse’s Face

１．Fold it three times and make three creases along the gray lines.

Put it back and fold the bottom part behind along the dotted line.

２．Fold both sides to the middle along the dotted lines.

３．Fold the top part down along the dotted line.

４．Fold the triangle up along the dotted line.

５．Fold both corners down along the dotted lines.

６．Fold it in half.

７．Fold it in half.

How to fold a Carrot

１．Fold it in half.

Fold both sides to the middle crease along the dotted lines.

２．Fold both sides to the middle crease along the dotted lines.

３．Fold the top triangle behind.

４．Fold the top part down along the dotted line.

５．Fold it up along the dotted line.

６．Fold both sides to the middle and open each bag part,

like picture No.7.

７．Fold both corners down along the dotted lines.

８．Flip it over, and it’s done!

We can use the first horse origami

for decoration in New Year’s Day

(a Year of the Horse; one of the 12 zodiac signs) too.

You can draw the leave of carrot green

or use origami paper (both sides colored).

Then it will be more like a real carrot!
